labor day michigan .06
Going to Michigan on Labor day seems to be turning into an annual event. This year there was a lot less lazing on the beach, salve and a lot more Detroit, baseball, beer, and driving around.
Friday, we went to a Tigers/Angels game with about 100 of Tom’s friends. We each had about 100 beers. Interesting things I learned…
- There is never any traffic in downtown Detroit. No traffic at all. Not even when there is an almost-sold out baseball game. Yet, everyone owns a car and there’s no real public transportation. Bizzare.
- Comerica Park is about 2 feet away from Ford Field, where the Lions play. Never seen a baseball and football stadium so close together. Interesting.
- The crappy seats at Comerica are like 1000 times better than the “good” seats at Yankee Stadium. They’re also really close to the beer vendors and there are no lines for the bathroom.
I also found some cute pictures of little Tom, circa 1983-84. Here he is with Thumper…
And with Heman Castle Greyskull. Confused on Christmas morning…
Our picnic was rained out, so we went to Scott’s house for some BBQ. It was like a Meat Parade. We had a choice of burgers, hot dogs, pork tenderloin, venison, bratwurst, chicken sausage, and we brought some RIBS. Not a vegetarian in sight.
After the BBQ, we drove out to Lake Michigan, where I frolicked…
we climbed stairs…
tom made fire…
i failed at dessert…
tom’s dad came at us with a stick…
and tom ate 5 cupcakes in one sitting (his 35th-39th cupcakes of the weekend)…
We also did a 21-mile bike ride on a trail that was bordered by corn fields, apple orchards, and cows. My bike was purple and hot pink. I regret forgetting to get a picture. More pictures on flickr.
The End.
